The initiative requires poorly-performing properties to use a Booking.com-created checklist within the Properly app for their next turnover. The checklist outlines Booking.com’s specific cleaning requirements, and Properly’s Real-Time Inspection team verifies completion through photographic documentation.

“This creates a level playing field for the entire industry,” Nigg explained, noting that standardized requirements apply uniformly whether a host operates independently or manages properties for a larger company.

Enforcement Mechanism

Booking.com establishes cleaning standards for its platform listings and uses Properly’s software and services for enforcement. Should a host fail to meet required standards, Booking.com can mandate participation in the Properly program. If hosts cannot achieve the stipulated standards, Properly reports back, resulting in listing removal from the platform.
